PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of the programme is to produce personnel from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds, to the highest academic standard in the identification and resolution of environmental issues. The programme intend to produce competent, intellectually mature, ethical, socially responsible environmental resource managers. skilled manpower that undertake environmental surveillance, monitoring and management. It is focused on the formulation, designing, planning implementation and monitoring of land use patterns and policy programmes and projects and their likely effects on the well-being of various aspects of the environment.

OBJECTIVES

The broad aim is to train specialists who can make spatial and objective contribution to national development, resolve man-made environmental problems arising from environmental abuse and make the surface of the earth to be functionally appropriate and sustainable. The specific aims and objectives of the BSc. Environmental Management programme are to:

  • Create in students an awareness and comprehension of the range of environmental challenges and opportunities in the immediate and wider region.
  • Provide comprehensive knowledge of management systems, legal framework and social/cultural issues pertaining to utilization of natural resources
  • Develop skills and knowledge for translating the theory and concepts of resource and environmental management into practice relevant to communities and workplaces today.
  • Create knowledge about geophysical and biological processes and constraints characterizing human activities and their interaction with the environment
  • Develop skills in the application of monitoring and environmental management tools used by resource and environmental practitioners.
