PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of the programme is to develop and advance the science and practices of building technology and construction management. It is concerned with the provision and analysis of information for decision-making and resource allocation purposes relating to the development and improvement of the built environment. Globally, the programme is aimed at producing experts with a heightened awareness of health and safety requirements for a sustainable and environmentally friendly building process.

OBJECTIVES

The general objectives of a degree programme in building are to train competent graduates in building construction process and  its management. The specific aims and objectives of the programme are:

  • To provide a well-balanced theoretical and practical education with the requisite knowledge and skills for effective professional practice.
  • To enable the student develop his/her intellectual, analytical and critical abilities in order to control the technological, economic, human and material resources involved in the building production process
  • To equip the students with the ability to locate, extract and analyze data from multiple sources, including drawings and other contract documents
  • To equip the student with comprehension of the environmental, social, economic and technological contexts underlying design and construction in the built environment;
  • To equip the students adequately in knowledge, attitudes, specialized skills and character qualities that will upon their graduation enable them work effectively within a team in the construction industry.
  • To provide the student with entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to enable him/her to be self-reliant
