The Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators, ANUPA, Niger Delta University Chapter held a one-day in-house training on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The theme of the training was "Building and Sustaining the University Professional Administrator". The event brought together registry staff and administrators from across the university for a day of learning, capacity building and professional reflection.
Dignitaries present at the event included the University Librarian, Prof. Pereware Teimo, and the Immediate Past Registrar, Dr. Benjamin Joffa.
The event began with a welcome address by the University Registrar, Dr. Emmanuel Amaegbe. He appreciated all staff of the registry and described them as "the live wire" of the University, noting how important they are to the smooth running of the university system. He encouraged staff to continue the good work and to uphold the standards of courtesy, discipline, good appearance and effective communication. He welcomed everyone, especially new administrators, and urged them to learn as much as possible from the training and to ask questions.
Declaring the training open, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Allen A. Agih noted that it was unique to be gathered on the first day of a new month to learn. He stated that learning is dynamic and must be continuous, adding that if one stops learning, the brain goes to sleep. The Vice-Chancellor commended the Registrar, Dr. Emmanuel Amaegbe for putting the training together. Building on the Registrar’s remarks, he emphasized the critical role of administrators in the university, stating that every student who graduates, every staff who gets promoted, and even academic staff who become Professors, do so through the efforts of administrators. "You run the university," he said.
The training featured two facilitators. Sir David Suowari, 2nd Substantive Registrar, Niger Delta University, spoke on "Enhancing Organisational Effectiveness through Minutes and Report Writing". He took participants through best practices in documentation, stressing the need for clarity, accuracy and professionalism in minutes and reports as tools for organizational efficiency.
The second facilitator was Dr. Guagha Micky Berezi, Ph.D, University Governance, University of Bristol, UK, who spoke on "The Role of Faculty Officer in the Governance and Administration of Nigerian Universities". He highlighted the strategic position of faculty officers in policy implementation, academic governance, and student administration, and urged participants to see themselves as key drivers of institutional governance.
The training ended with interactive sessions and a renewed commitment by ANUPA NDU Chapter to continue building the capacity of its members. The Chapter expressed appreciation to University Management for its support and reaffirmed its resolve to ensure that NDU administrators remain professional, knowledgeable and effective in service delivery.
