A delegation from the Nigerian Institute of Management, led by Mrs. Taiwo Ganiyat Olusesi, Ph.D, MNM, Registrar and Chief Executive, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Niger Delta University, Prof. Allen Aziba-Odumomsi Agih, to explore collaboration on professional development for staff and students.

During the visit, the delegation emphasized that the role of universities is evolving beyond the award of academic certificates. In today’s context, graduates must leave with practical management and leadership skills that make them employable and useful to society. NIM noted that leadership and management cut across all roles, and exposure to corporate practice is essential for preparing students for the workforce.

The delegation introduced the possibility of institutional membership, which would allow NDU to register as a corporate member and give both staff and students direct access to NIM’s training programs, certification pathways, and professional networks. The Vice-Chancellor welcomed the clarity provided, noting that this was the first time the process had been explained in such detail.

Prof. Agih reaffirmed that NDU is shifting its focus toward skills development and job creation in line with national trends in higher education. He stated that partnering with professional bodies like NIM aligns directly with the university’s responsibility to society, and that NDU remains open to collaborations that add value to its academic and professional community. He added that with proper engagement of university leadership, especially those who are NIM fellows, the partnership could move forward smoothly.

In his closing remarks, the Vice-Chancellor remarked that no institution can operate in isolation. Partnerships and collaboration are necessary for advancing the betterment of society, and NDU is committed to working with NIM to equip its staff and students with the skills and exposure needed to make a tangible impact beyond the university.

The visit marks a step toward strengthening NDU’s linkages with professional bodies and expanding opportunities for its community in line with its vision for skills-based, impact-driven education.
