The Council for Legal Education (CLE), led by the Chairperson of the Panel, Dr. Olugbemisola T. Odusote, on Monday, September 7, 2026, paid a courtesy and assessment visit to Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island Campus. The delegation, which included representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association, senior officials of the Council and other professional personnel, was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Allen A. Agih, alongside principal officers and academic leaders of the University.
Dr. Olugbemisola T. Odusote, Director General of the Nigerian Law School, in her speech stated that the purpose of the Council for Legal Education’s visit to Niger Delta University was to assess the progress and status of the Faculty of Law since its last visit, with particular attention to academic standards, infrastructure, student welfare, and regulatory compliance.
Welcoming the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation for the visit, which was the first assessment visit by the Council since 2022. He highlighted the unique geographical setting of the University, noting that its campuses and facilities are spread across different local government areas, with the Wilberforce Island campus situated on a cluster of islands and occupying land largely provided by the host communities, Amassoma and Ogobiri. He also highlighted ongoing developments at the Campus, particularly in the Faculty of Law, including infrastructure expansion and improvements aimed at enhancing students’ welfare and learning environment.
Professor Allen A Agih outlined the growing demand for admission into the Law programme and the Faculty’s commitment to maintaining academic standards. He noted that the programme attracts more than 500 applicants annually, with admission guided by approved quotas and regulatory requirements. The Vice Chancellor further highlighted the performance of students of the Faculty and expressed its determination to produce graduates capable of competing favourably at national and international levels.
The University acknowledged the support received from the immediate past and present Bayelsa State Governments towards the development of the Faculty, including the provision of academic staff, and appealed to the Council for continued guidance, understanding and support as the Faculty progresses.
The visit ended with renewed assurances of the University’s commitment to academic excellence, regulatory compliance, improved infrastructure, student welfare and the assurance of the production of globally competitive legal professionals.
