Admission of Prospective Candidates

A prospective candidate may be admitted into any of the following programmes in the University depending on the candidate’s qualification:

While candidates for non-degree and postgraduate programmes may apply directly to the University for admission when the programmes are advertised, prospective candidates seeking admission into any of the undergraduate programmes must apply through the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB). Candidates seeking to enter the University at 100 level (first year) must sit for the Joint Matriculation Examinations (JME) conducted by JAMB and obtain good score in the examination to qualify to apply for the competitive post-JME screening exercise in the University. However, candidates seeking to enter the University from 200 level (direct entry) will apply for post-Direct Entry screening exercise.  It must be understood that the University is committed to equality in educational opportunities and does not discriminate against applicants or students based on race, color, state or national origin, religion, sex, age, or handicap. Merit is fundamental in the admission exercises and high score in JME or high grade in previous certificate, diploma or degree programme does not guarantee admission on its own. It is only those candidates who meet the screening requirements that are usually admitted.

Transfer of Candidates from Other Universities

Depending on availability of space, students currently registered in full-time programmes in other Universities may be allowed to transfer at the beginning of a new session, provided that they have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of not less than 3.0 in the last sessional examinations. Prospective applicants should send their application forms, together with their transcripts, to the Registrar at least two months before the commencement of the session. Since admission is usually considered by Senate based on the recommendation of the appropriate Faculty Board, applicants are advised to contact the Faculty they wish to transfer before submitting any application. In any case, it must be understood that candidates are only allowed to transfer at levels where they will spend a minimum of three years in the University before they graduate. In the professfional programmes, however, candidates are often required to start at 200 level or second year of the programme.
